Contest at Nathan Bransford's Blog!

I entered the contest over at Nathan Bransford's blog tonight!

Oh what fun! I haven't even been doing anything related to writing lately and I just happened to see he had a first paragraph contest going...so I ENTERED! Heehee!

Here's my submission:

If there was ever a time in my short life I felt normal, I couldn’t remember. This was my normal, sitting beneath the window of this dark, abandoned house. Unknown creatures scurried across the broken glass littering the floor as I waited for him to emerge from the house next door. I peeked through the blinds hanging haphazardly on the busted window frame. His red aura lit the room around him, casting an eerie glow across the distance of the two yards. I couldn’t see him, but at least I could track the glow. I could have just barged into that house and taken him out. I’d done it before, many times in fact, but hopefully tonight would be the last time. I was getting tired of these games. It was exhausting being the only Demon Hunter in the greater Portland area.

Another Contest...part dos

hmmm...so far I have not received good comments over at Miss Snark's. DARN IT! So the preface didn't work and neither did the first chapter. Time for some serious rethinking!

Chapter 32-Jaxen

The door creaked open against rusty hinges under my touch, echoing in the silent room. Small puffs of dust sparkled in the sunlight filtering through the dirty windows. Memories were as thick as the dirt coating the furniture. Everything stood frozen in time. Sixty years had come and gone and nothing in this room had changed, except me.

Chapter 33-Sophie

No use, sleep eluded me. With a huff, I flung the covers off me and eased out of bed. Memories like waves breaking in a storm crashed around me as I stood in the middle of my room in a crumpled, day-old shirt with my hair standing in all directions and muddy boots laying as evidence on the floor.

Oh God. Oh God. Please tell me I did not throw up all over and make a total complete idiot out of myself. I plucked a twig from my hair.

Please say that I did not tell Jaxen I loved him.

Chapter 34-Jaxen

Her face was full of trust I didn't deserve as I tried to block the view of my brother laying covered in blood in the distance. I wished I could tell her everything I had worked so hard to hide. But I couldn't. So instead of telling her the truth, I stood in front of the girl who meant more to me than anything in my life ever had, and lied.
